Coast Guard Training Center Cape May The U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May is one of the nation's largest Coast Guard recruit training centers. Founded in 1924 as a Coast Guard air station, the base was used by the U.S. Navy to train aircraft carrier pilots during World War II. In 1948, the Coast Guard moved its east coast training operations to the base and later consolidated all enlisted personnel training resources at Cape May. Strategically located on historic Sewell Point, the Cape May Training Center prepares recruits for service across the full spectrum of Coast Guard operations, including law enforcement, air and sea search and rescue, aids to navigation (ATON) maintenance, environmental protection, and homeland security.
